MEET DR. PINKINS
“If I ever get out of here, I'm going to come back and get others out.”— a promise made as a little girl growing up in inner-city New York
I was just a little girl growing up in inner-city New York when I made that promise to myself. Surrounded by poverty, drugs, violence, and limited opportunities, I saw firsthand how environment, relationships, opportunities, and life-changing decisions could shape the direction of a young person's life.
But I also experienced the power of people who cared. A hardworking single mother sacrificed for me. A fourth-grade teacher recognized potential in me. Educators opened doors of opportunity. Caring adults came into my community and invested in children like me. Along the way, faith, education, relationships, difficult choices, perseverance, and life experiences continued to shape the person I was becoming.
Looking back, I now realize that what began as a little girl's promise was becoming a lifelong calling.
Today, through Dr. Pinkins Empowerment Academy, that promise continues. My mission is to help children, youth, and families discover what God has already placed within them, develop their potential, overcome life's challenges, make choices that move them toward their purpose, and become empowered to impact the lives of others.
For more than four decades, I have carried that calling into education, ministry, leadership, authorship, and community empowerment—serving children, youth, adults, and families across diverse communities.
“Prayer Changes Things—and Prayer Changes People.”
We believe that God works through the prayers of young people.
Global Young People Prayer Force (GYPPF) is a worldwide movement with a vision to raise up a generation of children and teenagers who know God, understand the power of prayer, and become faithful intercessors for others.
Through GYPPF, young people are empowered to learn to pray effectively according to God's Word, develop a consistent and vibrant prayer life, grow continually in faith, and understand the importance of partnering with God through prayer.
But the journey doesn't stop with prayer.
As young people grow in their relationship with God, they are encouraged to live out their faith and become Prayer Ambassadors—young people whose prayers, character, service, witness, discipleship, and positive influence bring God's love, hope, and light to the world around them.
They discover:
GYPPF calls young people to pray beyond themselves—for their families, friends, schools, communities, leaders, those in need, and nations around the world.
As they pray, their faith grows. As they grow, their lives become a light. And as they live out what they believe, they become a force for positive change wherever God has placed them.
